Carlyle Accelerates Value Creation Capabilities with the Appointment of Richard Elder in Newly Expanded Role as Head of Global Portfolio Solutions

New York and Washington – Global investment firm Carlyle (NASDAQ: CG) today announced that Richard Elder, former Chief Transformation Officer and EVP, Strategy & Growth at Carlyle-backed Nouryon, will join the firm in a newly expanded role as Head of Global Portfolio Solutions (GPS). Global Portfolio Solutions, formerly Global Investment Resources (GIR), provides insight and support to Carlyle’s investment process and portfolio value improvement efforts. The global team is comprised of functional experts across digital, talent, procurement, IT and other disciplines.  

As Head of Global Portfolio Solutions, Richard will oversee GPS’ value creation efforts that encompass the combination of innovative domain thought leadership, a network of more than 50 operating executives and advisors, a partnership methodology based on collaboration, and a world-class partner ecosystem underpinned by Carlyle’s global scale and reach. Richard will join Carlyle on July 11, 2022, reporting to Pete Clare, Chief Investment Officer for Private Equity and Chairman of Americas Private Equity.

Under Richard's leadership, Carlyle's in-house operational resources will come together with Carlyle’s strategy-focused investment teams, network of advisors, and ecosystem of partners to increase the speed and scale of building better businesses around the world. “We are excited to welcome Richard to the team as we deliver cutting-edge value creation capabilities to our companies and teams around the world,” said Mr. Clare. “This is an important expanded global role that underscores our commitment to drive consistent and repeatable value creation through the entire investment life cycle. As Chief Transformation Officer and EVP, Strategy & Growth at Nouryon, Richard led the business’ transformation, strategy, M&A, and commercial excellence initiatives. Richard joined Nouryon in 2019 after a 25-year career at McKinsey & Company, where he was a senior partner in its Washington, D.C. office, and a leader in its Transformation, Private Equity and Organization practices. He brings extensive experience in transformation processes and strategy development and has applied his private and public sector experience to help global businesses develop new strategies and implement large-scale transformations. He started his career as an officer for the US Air Force.

Richard has been a board member for more than 10 years with Athletes for Hope, which connects professional athletes with charitable causes. 

Richard holds a B.S. in Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA with honors from the Darden School at the University of Virginia.
